PROJECTS IN SYDNEY

PROJECTS PHOTOGRAPHED BY SHARRIN REES

The original building, a single storey, brick industrial building, was around 100 years old and in a dilapidated condition

The project called for alterations & additions to the existing structure to provide for the showrooms, workspaces & warehousing needs of an expanding fabric importer wholesaler. The brief required a significant expansion of the existing floor space.
Fundamental to the development of this site was the architects self-imposed constraint to maintain & re-inforce the character of the existing warehouse -
CONSERVATION + INTERVENTION.

It was agreed with the client to maintain the
character of the existing warehouse, providing additional
area with considered intervention of new elements.
The fabric showroom is the focal element of the ground
floor entry. Enclosed by two shifted halves of an ellipse, the degree of enclosure is controlled by 10 boxes used to display fabric.
The roof is tilted up to Probert Street, to permit light to penetrate deep across the space.
